CHARACTERNAME(S): Rokujou Miharu
FANDOM: Nabari no Ou
BACKGROUND HISTORY: Something bad is going to happen... Miharu had this feeling for a little while now, but he didn't know what 'it' was. He just wanted to live his life as an apathetic fourteen-year-old student, and aspired only to inherit the family okonomiyaki shop in the future. He didn't want to believe in talk about the "hidden world" or ninjas, that his teacher and classmate brought up suddenly one day, despite their persistence. But then 'it' happened. A group of ninja came after him without warning, awaking in him the power of the 'Shinra Banshou' that the ninja had been after. Knowing that he was going to be a target from now on, now that his power has awakened, he had little choice but to choose to join his school's secret nindou club until they can find a way to remove the Shinra Banshou from him. His teacher Thobari-sensei, fellow student Kouichi, and a samurai from Fuuma named Raimei become his guardians.
Because of the nature of his power, it's no surprise that everyone either wants Miharu, or wants to use him. A number of people come after him, and also, a number come to him asking to have their wishes granted. Miharu refuses them all until Yoite, a member of one of their enemy groups comes to him, saying that he holds his friend's lives in his hands with the unique power called 'Kira'. Although Kira is already slowly killing him, he has a wish that before he dies, he wants Miharu to erase him, and to make it as though he never existed. Although hesistant, Miharu agrees to do this, forming a secret alliance with Yoite before returning to Banten to his guardians.
He still doesn't know how to use the Shinra Banshou's power. So they make a plan to gather the Kinjutsu, or Secret Technique scrolls belonging to each of the villages, thinking that with them, they will be able to find the answer to using the Shinra Banshou. His teacher knows that Miharu is hiding something from him, but because Thobari is also hiding something, Miharu uses that as a shield, refusing to tell his teacher what happened when he met with Yoite.
Miharu doesn't remember his childhood up to a certain point, and he lost his parents when he was just a young boy. He has a feeling that his teacher knows something about it, but he has no proof of it. What he doesn't know is that Thobari had strong ties to Asahi Rokujou and a disasterific event from the past which has been wiped from everyone's memories, not only Miharu's.
It comes out that he is working with Yoite to use the Shinra Banshou to erase Yoite and Thobari vows to stop him, although he doesn't seem to know exactly what he's going to do. So Miharu begins working with the Kairoushuu that Yoite is a part of in order to stay close to Yoite, whom it seems does not have much time left. During their quest to gather all the Kinjutsu scrolls, Miharu's own wish becomes evident, despite the fact that he doesn't know and never really asks Yoite about his past, and that is to use the Shinra Banshou to save, rather than erase him, although he keeps this to himself until the very end. Despite this, he does as he has promised, and erases Yoite when the time comes.
TIMELINE SUMMERY: I've chosen to take Miharu from the point where he is in the midst of searching with Yoite for the kinjutsu, or Forbidden Technique scrolls, of each village in order to find a way to use the Shinra Banshou in order to grant Yoite's wish. It is a time when he does not hear from the Shinra Banshou under normal circumstances, nor can he just use it at this point. This is also the point when his own wish to save, rather than erase, Yoite surfaces. At this point, a great deal of character development has already happened for him, making this a good place to take him from for a lot of reasons, one of them being how dynamic his charaacter is at this point.
PERSONALITY: Miharu is a complex person who seems to unravel as the series progresses. At first he is seen as an apathetic young boy who doesn't care about anything. He ignores people, disappears suddenly in the middle of (one-sided) conversations, stares off blankly and in general doesn't say much, which earns him a reputation as someone who is cool and mysterious among some of his classmates. Because of his behavior, it often comes off like he isn't paying attention at all, when in fact - the opposite is true, and Miharu is quite observative. Rather, he chooses to keep it to himself. Even when it seems like he's ignoring someone, or tuning them out, that isn't always the case.
While he acts genuinely indifferent at first, Miharu's complex personality begins to unravel fairly early on. He pushes people away in order to protect them and sometimes it seems as if he's constantly thinking rather clearly about what it is that he wants to show other people, revealing him as someone deeply manipulative. And he has a devilish streak in him that seems to have no shame. He uses that cute smile of his both as a tool for his seemingly never-ending sarcasm, as well as a weapon that makes men feel like perverts, has his oponents dropping their guard and can even get him some good retail discounts. It doesn't seem like there's anyone who's immune to his charms... even when they know what he's up to.
However, at the core of his personality, Miharu's indifference is a way of protecting himself and keeping others from getting hurt on his behalf by keeping them at arms length. Deep down, Miharu longs to be loved, and cares deeply for the people who have become his allies and friends. It is the developing relationship he has with Yoite that brings more of this side of him to the surface. Because Miharu feels they are similar, he shows more of this hidden side of himself to Yoite, not realizing that the relationship has been eating away at his indifference all along.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: When it is first mentioned, the Shinra Banshou is described as a book, or text that holds an insurmountable amount of wisdom inside of it. For ages it has been at the center of all the fighting in the Ninja world because it is the greatest power in the hidden world. Miharu has this wisdom inside of him, although it is not a book he can just read, like it is described. The Shinra Banshou is personified inside of him as a mysterious long haired woman he calls the 'Fairy'. She isn't tangeble, she's just an image, but she holds all of this wisdom in power inside of her, and she exists inside Miharu, waiting and tempting him to draw this wisdom and power from her.
And she does this by asking him what it is that he wishes, saying that she will grant whatever it is with her power. She says that it is inevitable that he will come to use her power, but he shows no interest in having his own wishes granted. However he does use it in the end for Yoite's wish to be erased. When activated, the text of the Shinra Banshou covers his skin and there is an aura of power that manifests around him. But it's only like this when it is activated. Otherwise he is just a normal kid who has no super skills. Normally he does not have the power to activate the Shinra Banshou and he doesn't know how to control it, although it surfaces at key points when it seems like he could use it.

THIRD PERSON:He didn't think much of this rocking, the overly powerful smell of saltwater or the sudden change of scenery. One second he had been comfortably surrounded in darkness, sleeping, and then the next he was being woken by the strange, sudden lurches of a boat at sea. Sure, he blinked again to make sure he wasn't dreaming, but he wasn't really surprised either. There wasn't much that could surprise him anymore after everything he had seen and been through.
The cool air made him shiver slightly, and it blew his hair around enough to make him finally raise his hands to push it back behind his ears. He was looking around, trying to find something - anything, that was familiar. So what if he was suddenly in a new place. What worried him was that a certain huddled mass wasn't with him. He wouldn't admit it, but his stomach knotted tightly at the thought that Yoite might be lost and alone somewhere while he was on a boat in the middle of nowhere...
After all, all he could see were blue seas and blue skies ahead. There were hardly any clouds, and there certainly weren't any identifying landmarks in the middle of the ocean. Not that he would recognize them even if there were, anyway, but that wasn't the point.
No, the point was that he was deeply worried, and it was bottled up tight, with no outlet. Maybe he could use the Shinra Banshou to find... No. He quickly stopped that train of thought. The best thing to do would be to sit the ride out quietly until he made it to land again. Then he could find his way back to Yoite one way or another...
FIRST PERSON:...Mmm. Where am I? This certainly can't be the work of Thobari-sensei... it is a "vehicle" after all...
Were we even near the ocean?
All this rocking is making me feel... kinda sick.
I think I'll just sit down.
I wonder where Yoite is... I hope he's alright...
